TasksPipes documentation
Task pipes for teams that live in Outline — how to use them, connect them and host them.
TasksPipes is an open-source, self-hosted task manager built around Outline. It gives your workspace kanban pipes with typed tasks, incoming buckets to hand work to people and teams, and a calm next action for everyone.
Start here
- New to TasksPipes? Read Getting started, then Pipes and Tasks.
- Handing work over? See Incoming buckets.
- Connecting other tools? See GitHub and GitLab, Webhooks and chat and the public API.
- Running your own instance? Follow the installation guide.
The main ideas
| Concept | What it is |
|---|---|
| Space | Where pipes and tasks live: everyone has a personal space, and teams have team spaces. |
| Pipe | A kanban board with a purpose (sales, course design, software…). Its type sets its columns and task types. |
| Task | A card in a pipe. Its type gives it fields; it has an owner, a due date, sub-tasks, comments and a full history. |
| Incoming | The inbox of a person or a team: tasks sent by others wait there to be accepted or refused. |
| Next action | A Getting Things Done view: finish what is in progress, then start what matters most. |
TasksPipes works best with Outline, but does not need it: people can also sign in with e-mail links or with your company's single sign-on.
